No matter how loud their shirts or how high their hemlines, the golfers of Hot Shots are just folks, and the game they play remains rooted in physics and the fundamental rules of golf. There are no aliens showing up to intercept the ball in mid-flight, and there are no windmills or loop-the-loops on the green. The key thing here is that the game is still golf. It depends on the wind, and on the countless micro-factors that went into our swing, and also it depends on plain luck. Sometimes it does and sometimes it flips into the rough. We smash the ball out of the tee box, and it flies fair and true, and as it touches down we hope it will do all its bouncing on the fairway. We choose one, and then we take him or her out on the links. There are many characters, many of whom have spiky hair. It is a lot like previous Hot Shots golf games, in that it is basically about serious and challenging golf gameplay covered with a thin veneer of lipgloss. We vow to remember that when the next Hot Shots comes out. Then we play, and we realize that even a golf game with ADHD is still a golf game, and we have a quiet contemplative sort of good time, because that is about as exciting as golf gets, ever. We want to believe the new Hot Shots really will be loaded with speedy arcade-style action and nutty characters. Still, season after season, we believe the promo talk, which assures us the new edition of the game will have us up to our neck in hilarious tomfoolerey. To play a Hot Shots golf game is to play the same golf game we played a year or two ago, only with fancier pictures. Every new Hot Shots golf game is a lesson in the power of human forgetfulness.
